Lunch with Orange Soda

Last Wednesday was our monthly lunch meeting, held at Applebees. Ian Elmer of Orange Soda spoke to us about Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing, and shared some great insight about the do's and do not's of that strategy. I know that my eyes were really opened up to the skill and fine tunning it requires to run an effective online campaign.

The meeting wrapped up with Michael, fellow CoNNECTiSSiMO member, and also of Orange Soda, talking about Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and how to unlock the enigma of the natural search.

I think all of us can agree that the various industries represented in CoNNECTiSSiMO are moving online, especially when it comes to acquiring new clients. This was a great reminder that if you aren't riding the wave, you are drowning in the froth.

NAB Wish list

NAB is around the corner - the expo runs April 14-17. It'll be quite different without Avid and Apple, the two anchor tenants for that hall, to be conspicuously missing.

Who's all going?

Here's my own wish list for NAB:

DVD Studio Pro 5 with Blu-Ray authoring
32 GB Panasonic P2 cards drop in price to below $1,000

What's on your wish list?

Jan Luncheon "MacWorld" mtg.

Hello, this is Mike Kingsley and I am just trying to post up some info on the meeting that was hosted at the Pie Pizzeria.

Some of the things that were discussed were of course the MacBook air. Flash drives and solid state media seem to really be catching on these days. Just think of the P2 cards. Also I was having a discussion with Patrick from PBC Media the other day on how the stupid Final Cut Studio install takes FOREVER. I can see a day where large installs come with a little cheap "flash" drive similar to a usb keychain drive that you can just plug into your machine and install much more quickly.

We also discussed some neat software packages such as Flow from Gridiron software. This will be the ultimate in content management, collaboration, and tracking for design work but it should also work with the Video App's as well. Who knows if Final Cut Server will ever come out, it seems to be on hold but that product will be nice also as far as content management with Video.

There were other things discussed. If anyone else can remember or has any comments please post away in the comments!!

Big Business and Techology Expo

So I took a chance and set up a booth at the Big Business and Technology Expo at UVSC (or UVU) McKay Events Center. It ran March 5 and 6. I didn't know what to expect. We got our booth up a half-hour late, but once it was up, it was pretty cool. We had a good response. We'll have to wait and see if any of the referrals / prospects turn into actual business.
You can see my youngest, Henry, and my 5 year-old Michael, who dropped in for a visit. They dug the candy bowl.

Macworld Wish list

You could call it a religious pilgrimage. It's an event that brings out the OS worshipers across the country. It's the one and only Macworld and it's this January 14-18th.

I've been once - back in 2002. It was fun. I felt a bit out of place since I didn't live and breathe this stuff. My boss sent me to research Final Cut to see if it was really robust enough to switch over to. I also dropped in to visit Thomas who was working for DDB San Francisco.

Since Mike Kingsley is hosting our next gathering in January, I thought we could create a wish list of things we'd like to see at the Expo - and maybe he could pull a few strings with Steve-o.

Here's my belated Christmas list:
- Built in Blu-Ray burner
- DVD Studio Pro 5 that will really let you author HD DVD's and Blu-Ray disks
- New Apple Cinema Displays that are up to date
- iPhone 2.0 update that installs heat-seeking missiles to blow up slow moving cars on the freeway.

What 's on your Macworld Wish List?
